Survey shows young adult drivers take more risks

Mississippi residents may have heard that car accident deaths increased significantly in 2015. The annual number of motor vehicle fatalities in 2015 was 35,092, a 7 percent increase from the year before. A survey taken by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety determined that far more than half of drivers engage in risky behavior such as running red lights, texting while driving and speeding.

Truckers more likely to crash if their health is poor

Mississippi drivers who often share the roadways with semi trucks may be interested to learn that a study has shown that truck drivers who suffered medical issues in the past may be more likely to crash than truck drivers who are healthier. Specifically, drivers who had three or more health issues have a crash risk that is quadruple that of drivers who have not.

New trucker rule postponed by executive order

A rule called Minimum Training Requirements for Entry-Level Commercial Vehicle Operators was set to take effect on Feb. 6. However, truckers in Mississippi and elsewhere in the nation may have heard that its implementation has been pushed back until at least March 21. This delay is due to President Donald Trump ordering a 60-day freeze on new regulations and a delay on published rules that had yet to be implemented.

Important considerations when choosing a nursing home for a loved one

Having to place a loved one in a long-term nursing care facility is never an easy decision, and many people wind up feeling some regret about the placement, at least initially. Often, this is because of personal feelings that complicate the choice even when it is the right one for all parties involved, but sometimes the misgivings have a more legitimate basis. After all, nursing home abuse and neglect are relatively common in healthcare environments, and finding a reputable home that will provide the right care for your loved ones is a vital first step in protecting them.
