CVSA's surprise inspections identify brake issues

Mississippi residents understand the importance of safety when it comes to driving, particularly when large commercial trucks are involved. Therefore, they might be concerned that a surprise inspection event identified nearly 2,000 trucks that had to be taken off the road for safety issues, including over 1,000 with brake issues.

The event, organized by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, resulted in 9,524 inspections in 33 states in the United States and 10 provinces in Canada, with the goal of identifying vehicles that had safety violations. A total of 1,989 trucks were taken out of service. Of these, 1,146 had brake violations, which can pose a danger to motorists everywhere. Over 4,500 of the trucks inspected were required to have ABS by law. However, 8 percent, or 341 of them, had ABS violations. The organization was also looking at the performance of anti-lock braking systems.

The one-day inspection event is held to promote traffic safety by removing vehicles that have serious brake system violations from the road. This is one way to prevent truck accidents that can become serious and even fatal, particularly when smaller, non-commercial vehicles are involved. Truck drivers, of course, face other challenges when driving long distances, such as distracted driving from being sleepy or tired and speeding to meet deadlines. These challenges can also become factors in truck accidents.

If someone is a victim of a truck accident and decides to file a claim for damages, the factors that led to the accident might be used as evidence in the civil matter. The victim might seek help from a personal injury lawyer who can help explain how they should proceed, fill out the proper forms and gather the correct documentation and represent the victim if the matter goes to court.
